Blogging To Make Money

Blogging to make moneyBlogging to make money may be a lot easier than you think.

There are many ways to make money with your blog.

You can earn commissions from affiliate sales, Google Ads, CPV (cost per view) or CPC (cost per click) ads.

You can rent ad space on your blog.

You can build a list of prospects and market to them.

You can promote your primary business, and invite people to join you in your downline.

All of these methods require some strategy and planning, of course, and they can get somewhat complicated and time consuming.

Start Blogging To Make Money Today

But blogging to make money doesn’t have to be a huge mystery or undertaking.

You don’t have to wait until you buy a new course or buy some incredible software.

You can start today!

Or, tomorrow čÖé

Time Sensitive: This Special Offer Goes Away Very Soon (if it’s still available)

If you have information to share with someone, or can teach them something right now, I’ll bet you could be making money on your blog by tomorrow.

If you don’t have that kind of information, then get it.

Be creative.

What do you already know that you can package into something of value?

What would your readers like to learn that you can package into a quick information product?

Quick and Easy

Here’s the quick and easy way to start earning from your blog.

First of all, forget about these things if you don’t yet have them…

  • Sales Page
  • Optin Box
  • Popup Ads
  • “Work With Me” Page
  • Business Opportunity
  • Affiliate Products
  • Banner Ads

That doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea to have those things, and some of them are actually pretty important to build over time.

But if you have nothing but a blog, and want to start charging people money for some special information you have, then here’s what I’d suggest.

Here’s The “Meat and Potatoes”

First, it’s important that you actually HAVE something people want or need.┬á

But it doesn’t have to be put together into an ebook or video course or any particular format.

Let’s use an example, based on a topic I’m┬ávery familiar with and have actually worked with folks to develop.

Here’s the “product”…

Say you have done research on “Recovering From A Debilitating Heart Attack┬áWhile Drastically Reducing The Chance of Recurrence.”

Your “product” is sharing that research with others who want it.

That’s a “product” with great value for a certain audience, namely, people who have suffered a heart attack and maybe are post-op bypass patients and so forth.

If you posses special information like that, or anything else for that matter, you’ve got a “product” and a “service” you can sell right from your blog.

Here’s how…

Special: Our New Webinar Teaches You How To Build Your Own Sales Funnel

Write a blog post on your topic.

Using the “Heart Attack Recovery” example, it┬ámight be an article about overcoming the victim model of recovery.┬á Give people a few examples of things they can do, resources they can turn to, and professionals they can rely on.

Now, the hook…

At the end of┬áyour blog post, simply tell them they can join your upcoming teleseminar or webinar where you’ll be divulging more complete information.

Put a Paypal button right on your post and tell them to pay the fee, and you’ll email them their private invitation.

If conducting a teleseminar or webinar seems too complicated for you, then you can just invite them to a group Skype chat or a plain old conference call on your home telephone or mobile.

Don’t have Skype, don’t know how to conference call on your phone?

How about a private coaching call where you’ll discuss with┬áyour client, one-on-one,┬átheir particular concerns?┬á┬á

Use the opportunity, of course, to offer your advice and further resources.

Don’t forget to schedule your follow-up session right then and there.

Put a Paypal button on your blog post, tell them to pay first for their private coaching call.  After they do, you can contact them promptly to schedule it.

You don’t want to talk to people?

How about putting your information on a simple word or text document and emailing it to them after they make their payment via your Paypal button?

Then you can just attach the document to a plain old email and send it to them!

Don’t know how to attach a document to an email?

Copy and paste the text into the email.

No more excuses!

Is That All There Is To It?

Of course not.

This is a way to START your business, but it’s not the end.

Urgent: If You’re Not Building A Sales Funnel, You’re Not Building An Online Business

So, while you’re making money selling this special information in some form or another, you can work on these things:

  • a┬áfree optin offer like a free report or ebook.
  • an optin form on your blog to┬ábuild a list.┬á
  • suggest to your list that they buy your more detailed $7 ebook.┬á
  • offer them related products and services that you affiliate.┬á
  • build up to a 6-week course for $997 that you deliver as a video series or via live webinars or Google Hangouts.┬á
  • build your list
  • create squeeze and sales pages
  • write an ebook
  • put together video trainings
  • gather back-end products and services giving your special niche audience more and more and more of what they want.

Now you’ve got a thriving business.

But you probably can’t get all that rolling right away.

Start Here

Whirlwind Success VIP Club

So, before doing all of that, why not just write a blog post and offer what you can right now, today?

Or tomorrow čÖé

If you have nothing to offer, sit down and do some research or brain storming and come up with something.

There’s always time to build the more elaborate parts of your business, but for now…┬ájust start blogging to make money in order to fund your bigger proposals.

Are you ready to unleash a money making offer on your blog today?

How about tomorrow?

I’d love to hear your comments below, and thanks in advance for your social shares!

    Hi David.

    What a great idea.

I had not considered something like that before, but it’s something that I can aim for. I’ve bookmarked it for future reference.

    Thanks for the tip.

Excellent post, David! From the ground up. When someone is just starting out, or just beginning to start earning money from a blog, it’s good to have some simple steps to take right from the beginning.

We try to complicate things far too often, don’t we Willena?

I admit, it does seem like a complicate process to go from blogging to monetizing, but really, it’s a pretty straight path. We just need to be clear on what action we want people to take, and then give them the call to that action.

It’s really a matter of implementing more than anything.

    Hi David,

I find that the more I put my offers within the text of my blog post, I’m getting more clicks, even more optins. Well, I learned that from you lol.

We need to give that good old Call To Action every time we post. Not that we are spamming people, but just a gentle reminder of what we are doing.

It surprised me that some long time blogging buddies of mine didn’t know about my product and services until I did this.

As always, thanks again for all your support.

It’s always nice having you visit my blog, Donna…

You’ve built a tremendous blog following so I certainly value your insights.

I know you’ve done very well with your “inline” offers, the call to action links embedded within your blog posts.

I think people always respond better to offers made within the context of a blog post or article, than just seeing it plastered on a sidebar or sales page.

Your blog is a perfect example for people to emulate on this topic, as well as many others!

    This sounds pretty easy ,
sure for some it is doable if they have the right people
reading the posts.Very good suggestions to think about.

    • David Merrill 101 January 20, 2015 at 11:46 am #

Well, you make a good point here, Erika.

You can only do these things effectively if you have “the right people reading the posts” that you write.

So you need to be branding yourself within your niche, and actively building your readership base. But don’t wait to have a big readership before you offer them your services, because offering the services from day 1 will help you attract a more targeted audience… the ones interested in those services.

So it’s sort of the “chicken and the egg” syndrome. Which comes first? I’d say, work them simultaneously.

David, you are always amazing to me!

The walk through has clarified most all issues I personally have with my view on overloading your blog. Most will learn, during time and re-read your article until that light bulb moment, I just had. You truly know the way people think.

I felt the need to start charging for all the valued information. The product would be walking through daily challenges start-ups will face. That is basically, most of my sharing. I figured this out by the way you shared your perspective on making money through your blog. Priceless!

Yet, I do not charge for my information. I believe if people are to lazy to research. I will do it for them. Then, share my perspective based on my experience on a subject matter. I share my experiences in a story telling format. One that is only uniquely mine.

Thank you Dave for all the years you given me. Yes, you still are helping me clarify somethings about myself. I love it and appreciate you.

I’m so glad you appreciate the information I’m sharing on my blog, William.

I don’t think it matters that much if you lead into your sales funnel with a free product, like free coaching… or a paid product, like paid coaching of some sort.

The main thing is to present value, show people you genuinely care about helping them and do it consistently.

I know you do this on your blog, and it’s why you’ve done so well.

The business model only develops from the value you share.

Thanks again, William, and please keep up the wonderful job you’ve been doing with people.

      Thanks for the support, Jacs.

      It’s always nice to have.

Even if you haven’t packaged an offer for your readers yet, if you keep giving them good value on your blog, they’ll keep returning.

One day, you will have your offer for them, and they’ll be more than willing to give it careful consideration because they’ve come to trust you, and to appreciate the quality information you always share.

Meanwhile, I think you should put a high priority on getting things “packaged up.” That will move your business forward in ways you don’t even realize right now.

I think the key to making money by blogging, Rachel, is to build a following and then offer them something of value.

      It’s really that simple.

      But not easy.

It does take time, dedication, work and consistency.

I guess that’s why you see so few people actually doing it.

Your business is a great of example of what can happen when you follow through with all the actions required, and just never let go of your dreams.

I agree, it is hard to take a bunch of ideas and action plans and “put them all together.”

That’s why I try to get folks to work on just one little step at a time.

A big business is hard to develop.

Carrying through on one little step along the way is a lot easier to do, and lot more likely to get done.

When you see results from that one little step, the next one is easier.

Thanks for stopping by, Katherine, and adding to the conversation.

Excellent advice as always David. I am planning an experiment with a couple of upcoming posts that will include a bonus content link at the end of the article. I’m sure you’ve seen it – in exchange for your email address you get bonus materials. I think this probably works best with niches like yours where you’re teaching particular skills, but I have some ideas I want to play with so I’m going to test it without asking for an email address with the first one to gauge interest and see how many downloads I get and adjust from there. Should be fun. čÖé

You know, I think when you sit down and brainstorm a list of possible avenues you can take, it really helps to see the potential of your blog.

Just don’t get overwhelmed with it all.

If you have a list of 30 things you can do, pick the top 3, then implement just one of those. Don’t switch gear until you’ve FULLY implemented it, received some results and are ready to scale it up.

Then, and only then should you move onto the second strategy on your “top 3” list.

Good luck planning, better luck implementing!

    • David Merrill 101 February 12, 2015 at 2:06 pm #

Glad you learned a lot on our webinar about putting together sales funnels, Deborah.

Sales funnels are actually a pretty key piece in the puzzle for bloggers as they try to monetize their blogs.

How many times have I seen someone put a call to action link or optin on their blogs, only to deliver poorly on the follow up with their subscribers or buyers. Or to simply not deliver deeply enough, which is where the sales funnel comes into play.

In fact, the best way to think of your blog, and each piece of content that you put on it (posts, video, etc)… is that it’s the front end of your sales funnel.

People come to your blog for certain information. You give it them for free in the form of a blog post. With a call to action on your post, you invite them to go deeper into your funnel by subscribing to your email list. That’s not the end (and I’ve seen way too many marketers who think it is).

Now, on your email list, offer your subscribers sequences of information with embedded offers and even more calls to action.

But don’t just rely on email. Take the conversation onto social sites, too, where you do the same thing as you do with your email list… build the engagement and introduce occasionally embedded offers.

You can do many things with sales funnels and monetization strategies, but the best place to begin and to coordinate the whole process is on your blog.

Let me know if you need any help developing your sales funnels, Deborah, and thanks for jumping in here and contributing to the conversation.

It’s nice to see you trying out so many different ideas, Shelley.

Of course, the most important thing to do is to build a list of all your followers in these various streams, so you can follow up with them and deepen the relationship with your email marketing.

It’s actually not a bad idea to offer multiple lead magnets (free offers) too, in order to build multiple lists. That way, you can follow up with people about their specific interests. Makes you always more relevant to them.

As you say, Zach, knowledge is only a part of the equation for making money online. The other part (and really the part that stops the majority of folks) is implementation. It’s nice to know things, but if you don’t use that knowledge, it’s only good for trivia contests.

You’ve offered so many incredibly viable and completely doable techniques in order to start
    the right way.

And as you so wisely pointed out, you don’t need to get over the top fancy when you first start out, in order to be helpful and therefore profitable.

In fact truth told, it’s best to slowly dip your toe/feet in the water gradually and then gradually
over time, as you gain more real world (proven) “how to” experience and confidence, slowly add more fancy paid tools and other helpful resources etc.

But initially, in order to move forward and start building positive momentum, it’s simply not necessary at all.

You’ve really sparked several spin-off marketing ideas for me here Coach!LOL! Much appreciated!

Thanks for adding your valuable insights here, Mark.

KISS… as they say in online marketing… “Keep It Simple Stupid”

I’m guilty of making things more complicated than they need to be, too.

In fact, it’s always the biggest holdup on my progress. It always stops me from achieving a deadline, or getting off schedule, or failing to follow through with something altogether.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve struggled with something so much, and then I turn to my mentor or coach for feedback and within 5 minutes, I see clearly past the obstacles that seemed so insurmountable.

That kind of assistance is critical to implementing the strategies that will bring your blog or business into the profit zone.

A lot of bloggers, Mary, think they need to write blog posts as frequently as possible.

They post every day, sometimes even more.

I think you need to know what the purpose of your blog is before you can create a strategy for updating it.

The most important thing, in my mind, is to develop content for your readers, not for some search engine result goal.

Good luck with finding some more time in your schedule for blogging. Time is always a challenge, isn’t it?

Glad I stopped by again today. This one helps light a fire under anyone who wants to get going. I have stalled a little on an instructional book about meditating and even have a free 5 minute track to go with it. I have to get going on that adding a mindset tab to my sight. Thanks again for the match for that fire.

I love to hear that you find doable ideas here, Monna.

I don’t think you need to think of implementing everything, just those things that you believe will truly help you achieve your overall goals.

Once you’ve done that, implement one thing… make it work… then move on to the next.

Biting off more than you can chew may be more detrimental than simply doing too little.

I’m always taken aback by people who can’t think of what to do next with their blog. The problem is really what NOT to do, because there are just so many options available. And any one of them will do! Master that, and then you can move on to another.

I am going to write a blog post and will implement some of your excellent suggestions.

I like the idea of putting a Paypal button right in the post, offering a private coaching call where I could discuss with my client, one-on-one, their particular concerns Telling them to pay first for their private coaching call.

Also liked the idea of putting my information in a simple word or text document and emailing it to them after they make their payment via your Paypal button Then just attach the document to a email and send it to them!
Great ideas Thanks very much David!

You make it so easy to do. We often complicate stuff but this a dead simple way to make money from a blog without hassles. Of course, you must have something valuable to share. And it can be sold in a way to suit your preferences. If you like audio, sell it as an audio file, if you like video, sell it as a video product and if you like text, just put a text document together and sell. It’s as simple as that. I like the simplified approach you used in this post.
